294/365 today I went to the cinema

Today I…went to the cinema to see the new film ‘Effie Gray’ starring Dakota Fanning and Greg Wise, screenplay written by Emma Thompson.
It tells the story of Victorian critic and writer John Ruskin and his young bride Effie.
Beautifully shot, the scenery was sublime! A stellar supporting cast from British theatre and film including Julie Walters and David Suchet. Dakota Fanning is simply beautiful.
I liked it very much as I am interested in the nineteenth century and also the pre raphaelite brotherhood of artists. I enjoyed the book and  TV series  ‘Desperate Romantics’ which focussed not only on the male artists but the women who were associated with the group- models, lovers and wives such as Lizzie Siddall, (wife of Dante Gabriel Rossetti) who has been described as ‘the first supermodel’ and now Effie Gray, who went on to marry the artist Sir John Everett Millais.
I won’t give away any more of the story…go see it or maybe wait for the DVD. 3.5 out of 5 stars from me.
