208/365 Today I…went to a local food festival

Today I went to the annual food festival in Banbury.

I was very impressed with the variety of stalls- from Hook Norton Brewery to fruit flavoured gin, cupcakes, every conceivable flavour of pickle and chutney, mustard and jam. Sausages, pies, cheese… cakes, pastries and ice-cream.  Foodie heaven.

Also hot food from around the globe- crepes, fajitas, thai curry, paella, jamaican jerk chicken, a mouthwatering array of goodies!

Most of the stalls were offering samples and …it would be rude not to try 🙂

We bought some goodies – damson gin, hibiscus wine and some fabulous smoky marinade that is infused with lapsang souchong tea. Can’t wait to try that!

There were cooking demonstrations with a couple of ‘celebrity’ chefs- a former GBBO finalist and a bloke from ‘ready steady cook’ but we didn’t see them.  There was also a produce tent where local growers and cooks had entered the competition- it was closed for judging when we were there but I would have like to compare courgettes…

A very pleasant couple of hours- the sun shone and the town was busy.  Well done to the organisers; it’s great to celebrate local produce and creative enterprises. I am inspired to make some chutney- runner bean and courgette pickle anyone?
