Today I..am going to be quick- its 23.45 and I’ve just got home from the theatre.
I have been to see ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performed by the Propeller Theatre Company.
From their website:
Propeller is an all-male Shakespeare company which seeks to find a more engaging way of expressing Shakespeare and to more completely explore the relationship between text and performance. Mixing a rigorous approach to the text with a modern physical aesthetic, they have been influenced by mask work, animation and classic and modern film and music from all ages. Productions are directed by Edward Hall, designed by Michael Pavelka with Lighting designed by Ben Ormerod.
I loved this show, particularly the physicality of the actors- the dynamic was different because they were all obviously male-it was funny, but not in a ‘panto’ cross dressing way- they weren’t in drag, they were just men playing women. Loved the music, loved the staging, loved the costumes. Stayed behind afterwards for a Q&A with the cast.
If you get a chance to see them, grab it. They are touring MND and Comedy of Errors at the moment. I’m already looking for tickets…
